BASIL – 100% Pure Plant, Therapeutic Grade Essential Oil
Botanical Name: Ocimum basilicum
Parts Used: leaves/flowers
Scent Characteristics: warm, spicy, and herbal with a hot, somewhat anise tasting “bite”
Benefits: Used as a heart tonic, Basil helps stimulate blood flow, decongests veins and pulmonary arteries, and promotes milk flow in nursing mothers. It helps treat gout, rheumatism, and muscular aches and pains. Basil can also help relieve menstrual cramps, scanty periods, and it has helped some relieve prostate problems. It assists hair growth and adds luster to dull hair.
History: Basil takes its name from the Greek word for a king — basileum. Wreaths of Basil have been found in the burial tombs of Egypt. Kings were anointed with Basil oil during ancient times. In Italy, Basil is a symbol of love and traditionally women would put a pot of Basil leaves outside their window when they were ready for romance. New mom’s would eat the leaves to increase milk flow when nursing.
Blends Well With: Bergamot, Black Pepper, Cedar Atlas, Chamomile-Roman, Eucalyptus-Lemon, Clary Sage, Coriander Seed, Cypress, Eucalyptus-Radiata, Fennel-Sweet, Geranium , Ginger, Grapefruit, Hyssop, Juniper Berry, Lavender, Lemon, Lime, Sweet Marjoram, Niaouli, Oakmoss Absolute, Frankincense, Orange, Oregano, Palmarosa, Pine, Rosemary, Sage, Tea Tree, and Thyme .
